  Juwon Farri rushed for three touchdowns, Tony Muskett passed for two more and Monmouth defeated Charleston Southern 41-14 in the Big South Conference opener for both teams Saturday night. Farri opened the scoring with a run from the 2, capping a 14-play, 75-yard grinder of a game-opening drive that ate 5:35 off the clock. He added a run from the 5 as Monmouth (2-1, 1-0) led 14-0 after another five-minute drive near the end of the first quarter. The Hawks are ranked No. 20 in the FCS coaches' poll. Muskett was 18-of-29 passing for 208 yards with touchdowns to Terrance Greene for 10 yards and Assanti Kearney for 24.

In a switch, Farri scored on a one-play, 1-yard drive just after Monmouth's Eddie Morales returned an interception 77 yards to the 1. Jack Chambers scored both TDs for Charleston Southern (1-1, 0-1) on runs of 8 and 20 yards. Chambers rushed 14 times for 68 yards and went 18-for-36 passing for 167 more. CSU's Garris Schwarting, who tied Big South and school records with four receiving touchdowns a week ago, was held to two catches for 7 yards.   Tony Muskett threw for one touchdown and ran for another and Monmouth edged Fordham 26-23 on Saturday. Juwon Farri rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown for the Hawks (1-1), who got a crucial two points in the third quarter when Justin Terry intercepted a pass on an attempted two-point conversion to push the lead to 23-16. Nick Null's first field goal for Monmouth with 13:26 to go made it 26-16.

The Hawks were about to put the game away when Muskett, on a first-and-1 from the 1 was intercepted by James Conway, who returned the ball to the 35. Tim DeMorat cashed in with a 39-yard scoring connection with Dequece Carter with five minutes left. Monmouth got two key first downs before punting the ball out of bounds on the Fordham 8 with 26 seconds left. The Hawks finished with 469 yards, one more than Fordham (0-2). DeMorat finished with 352 yards on 27-of-49 passing, with three touchdowns, two to Carter.   2019 ALL-GREAT MIDWEST FIRST TEAM (COACHES): JUSTIN GROWEL - Lake Erie College - Defensive Line - RS Junior,...Growel was a force to be reckoned with for offensive backfields all season. The Wisconsins-native led the conference and was seventh in the nation with 21.5 tackles for loss. He was tied for third in the solo TFL category with 19. During the year he was also named Defensive Player of the Week by the conference twice.   2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): James Sheehan, Eastern Illinois,...Sheehan was a first team All-OVC selection at tight end after earning second team All-OVC honors last season. The senior superback was a versatile player for the Panthers finishing the year with 23 catches for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Sheehan became the 33rd player in school history to pass the 1,000 yards receiving mark for his career in the Panthers final home game. He would miss four games during the season due to injury.   2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): LB - Dytarious Johnson, Eastern Illinois,...Johnson was a second team All-OVC selection at linebacker after leading the team in tackles this season. Johnson made 67 tackles with 13.5 tackles for loss despite not playing in the final regular season game due to injury. He ranked 47th in the FCS in tackles for loss while finishing fifth in the nation with four forced fumbles. Johnson added 4.5 sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries to his season numbers. The senior nose tackle finished with 41 tackles to rank sixth on the team. He made nine tackles for loss with a half sack and four quarterback hurries.   2019 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE ALL-NEWCOMER TEAM (COACHES): WR - Isaiah Hill, Eastern Illinois,...Hill was named to the OVC All-Newcomer team after the redshirt sophomore led the team in receiving this season. Hill appeared in eight games after being granted an NCAA waiver to play just prior to OVC games beginning. He hauled in 57 passes for 569 yards and four touchdowns. Hill added another two touchdowns on the ground as he had a streak of six straight games with a touchdown scored during the season. He would rank 31st in the FCS in receptions per game.   NOV 18 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Isaiah Hill, WR, 5-11, 190, So., Shorewood, Ill., Eastern Illinois,...Hill caught 13 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown in Eastern Illinois' game against No. 15 Southeast Missouri. He caught a 26-yard touchdown in the first quarter to put the Panthers ahead for the entire first half. His 13 touches were the second-most he had grabbed in a game this season and tied for the third-most by an OVC player this season. It marked Hill's second-game this season of at least 150 receiving yards. Hill ranks 24th nationally in receptions/game (5.9).   Harry Woodbery threw three touchdowns passes, Darshon McCullough rushed for 155 yards and a score and Jaelin Benefield ran for 105 yards and two TDs as Eastern Illinois scored the final 21 points to notch its first victory of the season, beating Tennessee State 49-38 on Saturday. Demarco Corbin ran 6 yards for a TD to cap a game-opening 13-play, 67-yard drive, but Tennessee State missed the extra point and led 6-0. Benefield scored on a 45-yard run to put Eastern Illinois (1-9, 1-5 Ohio Valley Conference) up 7-6. The Tigers used Cameron Rosendahl's 3-yard TD run and a 2-point conversion run by Chris Rowland to take a 14-7 lead, but McCullough scored on a 15-yard run with 41 seconds left in the first quarter to knot the score at 14.

The Tigers (2-8, 1-5) put together back-to-back TDs - scoring on Rowland's 57-yard punt return and Rosendahl's 35-yard scoring strike to Rowland - to take a 28-14 lead. Woodbery answered with a 12-yard TD toss to James Sheehan, but Rosendahl connected with Steven Newbold for a 14-yard TD and a 35-21 Tigers' lead at halftime. Eastern Illinois cut its deficit to seven on its first possession of the second half on wide receiver Isaiah Hill's 4-yard TD run. After a Tennessee State field goal, Woodbery hit Benefield for a 19-yard score to get the Panthers within 38-35 after three quarters. Woodbery connected with Sheehan for a 5-yard score to give Eastern Illinois a 42-38 lead and the Panthers' defense came up with the play of the game. Jason Johnson sacked Rosendahl, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Ellin Corneliuss Page at the Tigers' 9-yard line.   Monmouth University sophomore running back Juwon Farri will not be eligible to compete for the 2019 season after having his University appeal denied on Monday. Farri will be able to practice and participate in other team related activities not involving competition.
